Warm Humans was born out of a mother/daughter dedication to helping students be their best selves. When we started, Elizabeth Lockwood was a first year teacher looking for ways to help her students feel successful in school and Susan Vander Sloot was entering into the research phase of her doctoral program. Collaborating on an active research project, the mother-daughter team introduced knitting into Ms. Lockwood's fourth-grade classroom, believing that an opportunity for students to engage their mind and hand together would benefit them socially while improving their math cognition. The kids loved it and so did their parents. Knit Club continues to be well received.
